We’re recruiting for the following roles:
General Manager
The Organic Growers of Ireland (OGI) is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and highly motivated General Manager to lead and grow our national organisation at an exciting and pivotal time for organic horticulture in Ireland.
This is a unique opportunity to take the helm of a mission-driven organisation, shaping the future of organic horticulture and food systems across the country.
Position: General Manager
Organisation: Organic Growers of Ireland (OGI)
Location: Remote, Ireland-based, with national and occasional international travel required.
Contract: Full-time 25-35 hours per week – flexible.
Reporting to: OGI Board of Directors.
Salary range: Dependent on experience.
The General Manager will provide visionary leadership to deliver OGI’s mission, working directly with the Board of Directors to implement strategic goals and lead day-to-day operations. This includes managing programmes and partnerships, expanding membership engagement, overseeing financial and team management, and representing the voice of organic growers at national and international forums.
1. Strategic Leadership & Organisational Development
⦁ Work with the Board to develop, implement and monitor OGI’s strategic objectives.
⦁ Lead the development and delivery of programmes aligned with national priorities such as the National Organic Strategy and Climate Action Plan.
⦁ Build organisational resilience, impact measurement, and ensure strong governance in accordance with the OGI constitution.
2. Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement
⦁ Act as the public face of OGI, promoting organic horticulture at local, national, and international levels.
⦁ Represent growers on key forums (e.g. Horticulture Industry Forum, Organic Strategy Group).
⦁ Build and maintain strong relationships with members, policymakers, funders, NGOs and industry stakeholders.
⦁ Drive growth in OGI’s membership base and ensure member needs are reflected in policy advocacy and services.
3. Operational & Team Management
⦁ Lead and support a small, dedicated team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
⦁ Oversee recruitment, supervision, training and team development.
⦁ Ensure efficient delivery of OGI programmes and services.
4. Financial Oversight & Fundraising
⦁ Manage budgets, reporting and financial compliance.
⦁ Identify new funding opportunities and lead fundraising, sponsorship and grant applications.
⦁ Build partnerships to diversify income streams and support programme delivery.
5. Communications & Knowledge Sharing
⦁ Lead internal and external communications to promote organic horticulture.
⦁ Ensure timely dissemination of information to members.
⦁ Support sectoral research and information collection initiatives.
Essential
⦁ Proven leadership experience in a related field such as non-profits, food/horticulture, or environmental sustainability.
⦁ In-depth knowledge of organic horticulture and Irish agricultural policy.
⦁ Strong financial management and fundraising experience.
⦁ Experience managing small teams and developing high-impact programmes.
⦁ Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
⦁ Strategic thinker with strong operational and project management skills.
⦁ Full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle.
⦁ Strong commitment to the mission and values of OGI.
Desirable
⦁ Experience engaging in advocacy and policy development.
⦁ Knowledge of governance, employment law, GDPR and health & safety compliance.
⦁ Experience representing organisations in the media and at public events.
⦁ Competitive salary (commensurate with experience)
