A very exciting Farm Walk & Focus Session on Small Machinery for Market Gardens coming up next in Co Kildare. On July 11th, we will be visiting the mighty Dermot Carey, legendary organic grower and master of small machinery for market gardens at Ballincarey Farm. This event is limited to 15 attendee’s, so make sure to book now to avoid missing this unique opportunity to visit the farm of an organic grower with 30 years experience.

INTRODUCING DERMOT CAREY AND BALLINCAREY FARM
Dermot Carey grew up on a 100 acre vegetable farm in Clondalkin, Co. Dublin, and has been growing and supplying award-winning vegetables to restaurants since 1993. In 2019, Dermot bought a ten-acre former equestrian centre at Ardscull in south Kildare.
In July 2022 the farm achieved certified organic status. As a new enterprise it is evolving and developing, currently producing around thirty types of vegetables on a field-scale type set up. The farm includes two polytunnels and is run on classic David Brown tractors.
As a consulting horticulturalist, Dermot also works with ‘Farm to Fork’ type operations offering expert advice on developing and maintaining new and established horticultural enterprises. He specialises in both large and small-scale operations that adhere to organic and sustainable principles, offering long or short-term support.

FOCUS SESSION
On the day Dermot will focus on a range of two-wheel and four-wheel tractors with implements, ideally suited to growing on between a quarter acre (garden-scale) up to ten acres or more (field-scale).
