Farm Walk & Focus Session at Robinson’s Farm
Wednesday, 29 March 2023 at 10:00am
Bandon, Co. Cork
The Organic Growers Network is excited to kick off this year’s Farm Walk and Focus Session Series with a visit to one of our long-standing and inspirational Network members – Robinson’s Farm in County Cork.
For those of you that may not be familiar, Robinson’s is a family run farm in Cork, based on 30 acres and supplying local farmers markets with an incredible range of field-scale and tunnel crops for over 25 years (see more details below).
The focus session in the afternoon will be on propagation, such a key part to every horticultural system and so important to nail as efficiently and effectively as possible. Understanding that every farm is unique, and there are many roads to Rome, this is not intended to be a workshop but a focus session on propagation with some experienced growers from around the country joining the Robinson crew. Everyone can add their tuppence and update on the equipment they find useful; we are learning from each other. From seed trays, compost, prop benches, hand seeders, watering to field scale row seeders, we will be covering it all.
Elmer Koomans, a legendary grower in his own right and now managing director of Fruit Hill Farm, is very kindly joining us and will be bringing some wares. I am guessing if you are part of the OGI community, you will not need an introduction to Elmer and Fruit Hill Farm but just in case, see below.
This is an amazing opportunity to visit a longstanding innovative small scale family horticultural enterprise. And not only that, you get to troubleshoot any propagation challenges you may be experiencing and see some of the latest and old school propagation equipment in practice before taking the plunge to purchase either new or secondhand.
Nobody wants you visiting their farm in March (of all months!), so big shout out to the Robinson’s for being so open and up for it.
