About the Farm

Fáilte go dtí An Garraí Glas. It is a one-acre South Connemara vegetable farm molded in North American small scale organic farming fashion. It is highly productive and independent of machinery and oil for everything (bar transporting the veg to the customers), but we also have an on-farm roadside shop to balance that out. We focus on growing salads and fast-maturing root crops for supermarkets and for restaurants.

We grow about 16 different vegetable crops and through succession sowing and responding to market demands we have very little waste and we manage to have all our land working for us 2 all of the time. Vegetable farming started here for us in 2013. Half a decade later we began selling to local shops and to supermarkets and it is only in the past two years that we added the commercial polytunnels that you can see in the photograph.

We are based in a Gaeltacht on the west coast of Ireland and it’s a twenty-minute walk from our farm intern accommodation to the beach. We finish our work at 3 o’ clock every day and there is an excellent bus service that you can stop outside the door if you want to go to further West or just back into Galway City.
