FAQs
What is the Organic Growers of Ireland (OGI)?
The Organic Growers of Ireland (OGI) was set up over 15 years ago by growers, for growers. We exist to support and represent Ireland’s organic horticulture community — connecting growers, sharing knowledge and working together to build a strong, resilient future for the sector.
What are the benefits of becoming a member of the OGI?
As an OGI member, you are part of a growing national network of organic growers — connecting with peers who understand the challenges of working in the field and running a business. Together, we share knowledge, build resilience and help shape the future of Irish organic horticulture.
All members benefit from:
- Discounts on farm walks and events
- Free access to webinars and learning opportunities
- Access to the Growers’ Network
Grower members benefit from:
- Inclusion in the OGI Members’ Directory
- Membership of the OGI Members WhatsApp group for day-to-day peer support
- Certified Organic and In-Conversion Grower Members also have voting rights at the OGI Annual General Meeting (AGM).
How does the OGI represent growers at national level?
The OGI represents the interests of organic growers at a national level by actively engaging with government and sector policy development. OGI holds representation on key national industry forums and working groups, including a seat on the National Horticultural Industry Forum and the National Organic Strategy Forum.
An OGI representative also chairs the sub-committee of the National Organic Strategy Forum. These are Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM)–led initiatives, where we work to highlight the challenges facing organic growers and advocate for practical, accessible supports for the sector.
We regularly make policy submissions, review government strategy documents, and advocate for better support, accessibility and inclusion for Irish organic growers of all scales — from small and medium growers to larger operations. Our work is focused on ensuring the voices and real-world experiences of growers are represented and reflected in national decision-making.
Who can become an OGI member?
The Organic Growers of Ireland is here to support and grow Ireland’s commercial organic horticulture sector by building a strong, connected community of growers and supporters.
We welcome commercial growers of all sizes and scales who are producing or transitioning to organic production. This includes certified organic growers, growers in conversion, and those using agroecological, chemical-free, or low-input growing methods who are interested in organic methods.
We also welcome people who support a more resilient food system in Ireland. If you grow your own organic produce at home, value eating organic food, work in horticultural education, or are simply interested in learning more about organic growing and sustainable food production, you are very welcome to join the OGI wider community.
If you are curious about organic horticulture and feel it could be a career path for you, you are very welcome to become part of the OGI.
Is OGI membership based on farms or individuals?
Membership is individual, ensuring each person has access to voting, events, webinars and the grower members WhatsApp group.
If you run your farm with a partner or business associate, each person needs to take out a membership to access voting, events, webinars, and the members WhatsApp group.
We offer an Additional Farm Member discount code, which allows another person from the same farm to join and access member benefits at a reduced rate. This is ideal for partners and co-managers. You’ll receive the Additional Farm Member discount code by email when you join.
Note: Each membership counts as one ‘seat’ for events, farm walks, and voting purposes.
I’m already a member of the OGI Network. Do I need to join again?
Yes. If you were previously part of the OGI Network, you will need to join as a paid OGI member.
Up until now, the OGI operated the OGI Network as a free community platform, providing access to WhatsApp groups, farm walks, webinars, newsletters and updates on training and grant aid schemes.
We have now reached a point where we are formalising our membership model. This allows us to better understand who we are representing, respond to members’ training and knowledge needs, and continue advocating effectively for organic growers across Ireland.
Being part of the previous OGI Network does not automatically transfer to paid membership. To remain part of the OGI membership community, you will need to complete the membership registration form and pay the annual membership fee.
We truly value the support of our Network community and hope you will continue your connection with OGI as a member.
If you have any questions about the transition from Network to Membership, please contact us and we will be very happy to help.
What is the OGI Members Online Directory and how do I join?
Your name and farm contact details will be used to create an internal directory to support networking within the OGI. This directory will be available on our website for OGI members only and will not be publicly available.
Being part of the directory is a great way to connect with other growers within your local area and across the OGI membership network.
If you do not wish to be included, you can opt out when you join or contact us and we will remove you from the directory.
What is the OGI Members WhatsApp group and how do I join?
OGI members can stay connected on a day-to-day basis through the OGI Membership WhatsApp group. Joining the group is a great way to stay in live, everyday contact with growers — sharing advice, asking questions and exchanging information directly within the OGI membership network.
You’ll receive a WhatsApp sign-up QR code by email when you join, which you can use to add yourself to the OGI Membership WhatsApp group. Or you can contact us to add you to the group.
You do not have to join the WhatsApp group. If you do not wish to be included, you can opt out when you join, or contact us and we will remove you from the group.
Is the OGI Members WhatsApp group different from the OGI Network WhatsApp group?
The OGI Members WhatsApp group replaces the OGI Network WhatsApp group. You must now be a member of the OGI to join the WhatsApp group.
