OGI Internship Update May 2026
The 2026 Internship in Organic Horticulture programme is in full swing with interns gaining practical experience on their host farms and building skills through the OGI training programme.
The second training day of the year focused on Propagation and was hosted by Jim Cronin in Bridgetown, Co. Clare. This highly practical workshop covered seed sowing, module trays, soil blocking, direct sowing, compost mixes, crop planning, succession sowing and propagation hygiene. Interns gained hands-on experience while also linking practical propagation skills to wider organic standards and crop planning requirements.
On 12th May, interns gathered at Doon Social Farm in Co. Limerick for certified Health & Safety and Manual Handling training delivered by John Carey. The day focused on safe working practices in horticultural settings, risk awareness, lifting techniques and general workplace safety, ensuring interns are equipped with essential skills for working safely on host farms throughout the season.
The programme continues over the coming months with workshops and farm walks covering soils, machinery, pest and disease management, conversion planning and further organic standards training.
